This show left me a little confused about exactly how I feel about it. On one hand, the show has this absolutely gorgeous aesthetic that makes the entire viewing experience pleasant.
The sexual tension burning beneath the surface of every conversation between these two had me clawing at my own skin because I couldn't take it anymore. How these actors survived filming, I'll never understand.
On top of that fact, just the way they talk to each other is sexy. Deep and thought-provoking communication. I was stunned by all the philosophical discussions these two had and how healing it seemed to be for both of them. It honestly rivaled the type of communication you see in Taiwanese bl's where there's a lot of hidden meaning or nuance. It was really cool to be a sort of fly on the wall for it.
However, the mother's relationship with the son is so incredibly toxic. She's clingy, she's manipulative, rude, and down-right homophobic Mixed with the fact that none of these things get resolved and the son ends up leaving with her because she's his mom and she's always there for him (spoiler: She's not at all; unless it benefits her).
I had a really hard time sitting through any of the scenes where those two were together. Even when they were not fighting, the relationship was weird and I didn't like it.
I would even be fine with the ending this show had if it weren't for her part in it and it feeling like they both just bowed to her wishes.
I would really love to give this show a 10/10 for just how well it's acted and the chemistry but the mother/son story arc killed it for me.
7/10
